Recent Headlines: Producing from the lA bureau at CBS News national

For these pieces I acted as the catching producer working in the LA Bureau for our weekend evening news program.

Meaning, I coordinated with our NY teams and our field teams to ensure we had the best location for the live shot, I booked and conducted interviews for the breaking news stories, scripted with our correspondents and senior producers, gathered/purchased videos from social media and stringers, coordinated with our media manager to ensure our editor had all the materials and vocal tracks to cut the video and I sat in the edit room with the editor and told them which video to use and where, all with an extremely tight deadline looming.

Recent Headlines: Producing from the Field

Our recent stories on the Utah fires expanded from our weekend shows, into our weekday programming. So, I got on the first available plane to Salt Lake City for a Morning Live shot with Jonah Kaplan and then after that, we headed Eureka, UT.

From there I coordinated an interview with the Firefighter’s PIO, as well as with a resident named Terri Underwood whose home was threatened twice by two seperate wildfires. She told us how her husband, who is a volunteer firefighter and his team helped save her and her daughters home. I then worked with our photographer and correspondent find the best live shot location then we collaborated on writing and blocking our live shot intro and tag.

I was the solo producer/shooter for this story, so I captured the video from inside and around the horse stables at this Colorado Prison. I chose the interview locations, used 3 cameras for the interviews for our subjects and our correspondent, Katie Weiss. I also conducted some of the interviews that led to our subjects explaining their tools, duties and how dealing with horses is a lot like dealing with the outside world. I shot all of the b-roll and stand up. I was also alone without a correspondent finding and interviewing the adoption event attendees at the end of the piece, so all of that video and sound was also gathered by me.
